--- title: "MCP guide: install in Claude Code" description: Add the OneHazel MCP server to Claude Code with one command, check it is connected, and paste the one line that starts the integration. --- # Install in Claude Code ::: tip What you need before you start - Claude Code installed. In a terminal, `claude --version` prints a version number. - A key with the Connect scope, `mcp_connect_enabled`. Only **Connect casino** > **Integrate with AI** > **Create integration key** makes one. The **API Keys** page lists it with the label `mcp-connect`. The MCP switch on the **API Keys** page is a different setting and cannot add this scope. - That key in the `ONEHAZEL_API_KEY` variable, from steps 1 and 2 of [Install](/connect/mcp/install). ::: ## Step 1. Go to your casino's code folder Use the terminal window where you set `ONEHAZEL_API_KEY`. Go to your casino's code folder. Replace the path with your own folder: ```bash cd ~/path/to/your-casino-code ``` ::: info What you should see The terminal prompt now shows that folder. ::: ## Step 2. Add the server with one command On a Mac or Linux: ```bash claude mcp add --transport http onehazel https://api.onehazel.com/mcp-server --header "Authorization: Bearer $ONEHAZEL_API_KEY" ``` On Windows, in PowerShell: ```powershell claude mcp add --transport http onehazel https://api.onehazel.com/mcp-server --header "Authorization: Bearer $env:ONEHAZEL_API_KEY" ``` The terminal fills in your key from the variable. Claude Code saves the server for this folder only, which is its default. Do not add `--scope project`. The Claude Code documentation says that scope is "shared with everyone in the project via the `.mcp.json` file". Your key would end up in a file in your code. ::: info What you should see A short confirmation that the server `onehazel` was added. This does not check your key yet. A wrong or missing key only shows up in step 3. ::: ## Step 3. Check the connection ```bash claude mcp list ``` ::: info What you should see `onehazel` with a health status. The Claude Code documentation names them: "such as `✔ Connected`, `! Needs authentication`, or `✘ Failed to connect`." You want the first. ::: A wrong or missing key shows here as `! Needs authentication` or `✘ Failed to connect`. To fix it, remove the server, check step 2 of [Install](/connect/mcp/install), then add the server again: ```bash claude mcp remove onehazel ``` ## Step 4. Start Claude Code and paste the one line ```bash claude ``` Inside Claude Code, `/mcp` shows the server list again. Then paste exactly: ```text Connect my casino to OneHazel. Start with connect_status and follow next_step. ``` ::: info What you should see Claude Code calls `connect_status` and reports one line per module. Continue with [the journey](/connect/mcp/journey). ::: ## If your network blocks the direct connection Use the OneHazel bridge instead. It is a small program that runs on your computer and passes messages between Claude Code and the OneHazel server. It reads the key from the environment and never prints it: ```bash claude mcp add onehazel -e ONEHAZEL_API_KEY="$ONEHAZEL_API_KEY" -- npx -y @onehazel/mcp ``` If the key is missing, the bridge stops with exit code 2. Its message names `ONEHAZEL_API_KEY`.
